இடரினும் தளரினும் - An English Translation

This is my attempt at translating ‘இடரினும் தளரினும்’, the Divine verses composed by Thirugnana Sambandar, into English. Please let me know if the translation is not in sync with the meaning intended by Sambandar.

1.
இடரினுந் தளரினும் எனதுறுநோய்
தொடரினும் உனகழல் தொழுதெழுவேன்
கடல்தனில் அமுதொடு கலந்தநஞ்சை
மிடறினில் அடக்கிய வேதியனே
இதுவோயெமை ஆளுமா றீவதொன் றெமக்கில்லையேல்
அதுவோவுன தின்னருள் ஆவடு துறையரனே.


Let hurdles come and heart grow weak,
Let fate follow, Thy Grace I seek;
O Lord of Vedas! To Nectar free,
Thy throat held the poison born from sea.

Is there nothing you could provide
To a devotee who sings Thy Praise?
Is this the way Thou rule our lives?
Is this the way Thou show Thy Grace?

2.
வாழினுஞ் சாவினும் வருந்தினும்போய்
வீழினும் உனகழல் விடுவேனல்லேன்
தாழிளந் தடம்புனல் தயங்குசென்னிப்
போழிள மதிவைத்த புண்ணியனே
இதுவோயெமை ஆளுமா றீவதொன் றெமக்கில்லையேல்
அதுவோவுன தின்னருள் ஆவடு துறையரனே.

While living or dying or suffering huge,
While stumbling in life, Thou are my Refuge;
O Lord, who wears the crescent on the crown
From where the waters of Ganga flow down!

Is there nothing you could provide
To a devotee who sings Thy Praise?
Is this the way Thou rule our lives?
Is this the way Thou show Thy Grace?

3.
நனவினுங் கனவினும் நம்பாவுன்னை
மனவினும் வழிபடல் மறவேன்அம்மான்
புனல்விரி நறுங்கொன்றைப் போதணிந்த
கனலெரி யனல்புல்கு கையவனே
இதுவோயெமை ஆளுமா றீவதொன் றெமக்கில்லையேல்
அதுவோவுன தின்னருள் ஆவடு துறையரனே.

While awake or in the dreams I see,
O Lord, I don't forget to worship Thee;
Wearing waters and flower with fragrance nice,
Thou wield the fire with flames that rise.

Is there nothing you could provide
To a devotee who sings Thy Praise?
Is this the way Thou rule our lives?
Is this the way Thou show Thy Grace?

Also, your reference to the story behind this Pathigam and its mention in the ThiruNerisai by Navukkarasar are educative.
