Hari Om,

Request you to please help me in below issue I'm facing.

Android Phone I installed ColorDict.

Used Stardict to get all Sanskrit related files to my local folder. Files were of extension

किमिदं "Used Stardict" इति?

When I tried to load these files via the ColorDict's 'Download From Local' option, it's showing "Invalid File" error.

I tried to decompress the .dict.dz files to plain .dict files and tried. It's giving same message .

Not sure what to do.

Regards...

Thanks a lot for responding..

I followed one of your previous emails and did following.

1. Used "Stardict Dictionary Updater" app to get Sanskrit related dictionaries. It downloaded .dict.dz files .

2. The used ColorDict app to load these .dict.dz dictionary files. Then it's showing "invalid file". I unzipped them to .dict dictionary files. Still showing same error.

How exactly did you do this? Specify the steps.

(Also cc the mailing list, who might be able to help you.)

Not sure if files are corrupted or ColorDict isn't working.

How do you load dictionaries into ColorDict pls tell

Regards.

Thanks for CCing the support team.

Find the screen shots below.

In the last step , in ColorDict I used Download Icon At Top Right. I Chose Local File And Pointed To One Of The .dict.dz files. It then says 'Invalid File'

If any further information is required please let me know.

Thanks & Regards

I see - screenshot 1 is the wrong way to go about it. You should change the data folder to point to Internal storage/Download/Dictionaries , where you've downloaded the dicts.

It Worked Finally 😀

I Tried Your Solution And Many Others But The Below One Worked Finally.

All the dictionary files must be in the ColorDict's default folder as shared in the screen shots. Apart from ".dict.dz" file the ".idx" and the ".ifo" are also required. Then the app will auto detect the compressed dictionary file and it decompresses it into .dict file and indexes it and shows up in the app.

Thanks for all your time and suggestions.

I have had the same problem. It does not let you point to the data folder as you suggest. May be because it is not a "file"? And if you click two levels down, it gives the invalid file error.

In other words, the suggested fix does not work.

Do you recommend an alternate dictionary for Android 14?

I tried the default folder too. No luck. All four files (dict.dz, ifo, idx, syn) in the dictdata folder or dictdata/dict produces the same result. It does not pick up the dictionary.

could either of you write step by step procedure in Google docs for using the dicts with colordict? it would be greatly useful to others (even local saMskRta-bhAratI folks were confused recently - https://groups.google.com/g/sanskrit-programmers/c/RLKbviRQBOU/m/DwTmg9jgAwAJ ).
