None of these are Sanskrit, but Tamil and the place is weell known in Tamilnadu. I think ।
मधुरा is correct Sanskrit word.

It can be explained as

Also the same is seen as “अयोध्या मथुरा माया काशी काञ्ची अवन्तिका ।

Both seem to be correct as per Vacaspathyam

In Tamil, आकारन्ताs are changed to ऐ sound. मधुरै is essentially the Tamil form of the city मधुरा

Yes, however it is called मदुरा (not मधुरा). It was named after the northern city of मथुरा, and in ancient Tamil literature it is called the southern मदुरा i.e. தென்மதுரை (as opposed to the northern city which is called வடமதுரை).

No, the Samskrit version is मधुरा, not मदुरा. Kosha citations have already been provided.

Composed in the Vijayanagara period, Ganga Devi's Madhuraa vijayam may be of interest -

It is not मदुरा vijayam after all.

Namaste,

It is मथुरा of North India which is counted among the seven holy cities of Hindus, known as Saptapuris. It is not the Madhura in Tamil Nadu.

Thanks a lot Prof.Dr.HN.Bhat ji, Gomathy ji,Simran saini ji & Naresh ji
when I was going through a sanskrit story of koon pandian it was written as मधुरै & hence wanted to confirm it.
It seems the place became sweet because  of a drop of water fallen from the matted hair of Shiva, though no puranic evidence is seen.
