Repetition of words in Sanskrit

A list member asked about the repetition of words in sanskrit.  This is briefly described in Whitney's grammar section 1260 (page 488). Though this section is in the chapter on dvandva compounds, and he describes it mostly about compounds,  part c  describes this in non-compounds .
