1)अस्मद् गुरुभ्यो नमः
2) अस्मद्गुरुभ्यो नमः
Which is correct?

In many shlokas, I can see
अस्मद् गुरुभ्यो नमः - is this correct?

Thanks and Regards

Both have same letters. As per panini rules अस्मद्गुरुभ्यो नमः। is correct.
Inside a line every half letter must be pronounced joined with the next letter only. Not separately.

Dear divine soul!

Pranam. Both are correct. It depends upon the meter. Like, of it is in gayatri chandas, 4 letters in each sentence and total 24 letters.  In that case, asmath gurubhyho nama: will come.

If it is written in ushnik or anushtup chandas, each sentence should have 6 & 8 letters.  In that case,  asmathgurubhyo will come. Anushtup is 32 letter chandas.

Hope, it may clear your doubt.

Namaste mahodaya

1) अस्मद्गुरुभ्यो नमः
2)अस्मद् गुरुभ्यो नमः

The meaning of these two sentences are different.
In the first sentence, अस्मद्गुरुभ्यो is samasta padam. Here अस्मद् is pratipadikam, it can be taken as अस्माकम् (our), salutation to our gurus.

Whereas in the second sentence, अस्मद् is पञ्चमीविभक्तिः meaning is "from", it might not be meaningful.

Please confirm my understanding

Thanks and regards

If the two words are  अस्मद् and gurubhyo then they have to be pronounced अस्मद्गुरुभ्यो नमः only even if there are different meaning because the pronounciation rule says that any half letter inside a line should be pronounced with the next letter only. Never independently.

I am curious as to how "asmad" can be an independent word here: AFAIK, "asmad" is panchami bahuvacana if it is an independent word, but I think that the intended meaning is "salutations to our guru(s)".

Namaste,

"अज्झीनं व्यञ्जनं परेण संयोज्यम्," should be together "अस्मद्गुरुभ्यो नमः"
