Subject: Saligao Association UK - 50th Anniversary Update on event and supporting ppt and photos
As promised here are the updates of our 50 th Anniversary held at the Civic Suite of
Wandsworth Town Hall on the 5 th May 2019. I apologise for the belated response as we
have been working on obtaining a collection of photos to share and the presentation that
many members requested.
On behalf of our Saligão Association UK 50 th Anniversary Committee, we are delighted that
we delivered to our members a truly memorable event to commemorate this very special
milestone. We received such positive feedback from our members and guests and know that
we were truly showered with blessings from our Mae De Deus to make this happen
The tremendous help and support from many of our helpers behind the scenes during the
planning and on the day is what made such a remarkable difference and we thank each one
of our helpers for their major contributions. Needless to mention our Master of Ceremonies
Francis D’Silva and Willaim Vaz that kept managed and looked out for all our guests.
Nedlessless to say you Frederick ,Clarrise and Melvin D’Souza were instrumental in
providing greatest support towards our 50 th Anniversary souvenirs –it was tremendous.
Our most significant celebration to commemorate the Feast was our feast Mãe de Deus
mass - officiated by Fr Andrew Ebrahim and Fr Jerry that presented the true essence of our
Saligao celebrations. The choir led by Selina D’Sa,the instrumentalist, solo singers,
Eucharistic ministers, servers and readers depicted how our younger members took great
pride in participating –it was very enchanting.
Wherever possible we planned to give our past Presidents the limelight they truly deserved
for the years they served our members. The photos replicate their delight. The past
Presidents that attended on the day included Sarto Mendonca, Irene D’Souza, Benny
Mascarenhas, Juliana Moniz, Sergio Coelho, Jerry D’Souza, Lorna D’Silva, Loretta Vaz,
Selina D’Sa, Maurice D’Souza and Marlene Vaz and Claire D’Souza of course.
Rosalyn Lobo was unable to attend as she was in mourning due to the loss of her brother.
Lambert Mascaranhas was unable to attend as he is in a care home
We were proud to be able to give our presidents their moment to come together and toast
the 50 th Anniversary
Our celebrations and entertainers took great delight in performing for the event – the band
–Big Dreams, and the Duo -led by Levis Mendonca and our feature Lancer Dancers to mark
the occasion led by Marcia
As we know the Saligão Association UK not only celebrated a great milestone but we
recognise that the real value is in giving. We are proud that our members approved
donations towards the Life Skills Centre, the Orphanage and here in the UK –Dr Barnados –
these collective charities and establishments really benefit from donations and we are proud
that we can make contributions towards their good work.
Having completed our 50th Anniversary milestone and received such tremendous support
from our members it was a true depiction of the passion our members have for their
Association and its sustainability.
It therefore gives me great pleasure to announce that the Saligão Association UK will thrive
as we now have our new successors to take the Association towards a new dimension led
by President Vanessa Fernandes and Committee members- Beatrice Ferreira, Ashley De
Gama and Stephani D’Souza.
We are proud to see the Saligão Association UK moves towards the next phase and welcome
great support to our new Committee 2019/2020 as they grow our membership support and thrive
for many years to come
Best Regards
Claire
