Quick note to all: Starting with this release, all development releases are also made available through GitHub Releases, including automatically generated release notes. (Previously, only the stable releases appeared there.)

I think this is a new failure. Could it be due to an upgraded system package?

It definitely looks like you have a newer nauty kicking in here.
The fix is to make the test more generic - after all it tests an error message!

I see

% gentreeg --version
Nauty&Traces version 2.8091 (64 bits)

I completely agree: the test needs to be more robust.
