As we approach the release of Sage 10.5, I thought it might be of interest to some people on this list that the macOS app for Sage 10.4 has been downloaded 25,744 times since its release on July 28.  (That number combines the Intel and Arm disk images and is based on querying the github API.)

For comparison, the 10.3 app has been downloaded 11298 times since the release of the first of three point versions on Feb 28.

As someone who tries to convince colleagues and students to use SageMath, and tries to assist in installing it, I would like to take this occasion to thank Marc for his wonderful app, allowing a most easy installation on macOS.

And I continue to hope for something similar on Microsoft Windows…

Of course, big thanks too to all contributors to SageMath which is such a great project.

I will certainly second that, thank you Marc! I use the app on macOS and it's been very smooth and nice to have. I'm sure I used it in grad school, as well. I do encourage people to use it when the topic arises, and it's cool to see the numbers double. Congrats!

The increase suggests that making sage accessible remains something to
focus on. Thanks to Marc and all maintainers who make it possible to
install it instantaneously on distros (MacOS but also some GNU/linux
and conda)!

I should say that I am not at all convinced that the increase in downloads means that more mathematicians or students are using Sage on their own computers.

You can install Sage on a Github macOS CI runner or an Amazon EC2 macOS instance by running "brew install sage".  That makes it practical to use the current version of Sage on one of these hosted virtual machines, and could also lead to repeated downloads of the app.
