Hey everyone,

i´ve just got my bGeigieCast module for my nano and im testing it at the current state. I´ve updated the version to v1.5 and now the manual and the informations i got from the configuration site are not the same.
The LED is solid Green and for testing i set the "Send data to server" to 5 seconds.

I cant use the development server my clicking the checkbox. Now i have to put in a development API key... which should be found here https://dev.safecast.org/... but the website is not available.

Also Grafana didnt show any meassurments even in the "SAFECAST Geigiecast Drive" nor " Safecast Device Details BGeigieCast".

I think i need a push in the right direction.

Thanks
BR
Philipp

Ahhh looks like the meassurments are arriving in the https://api.safecast.org....
so the system seems working.

development API and Grafana would be nice to use for the beginning.
Thanks

Philipp,

The dev server is sleeping.

Hugs and peace,

Philip,

The Grafana server is basically working, but Elastic Search instance is down. Without ES the system does not work at the moment.
We are working on it.

Hugs and peace,
Rob

Hi Rob,

thank you for the feedback.
Is there a way to stop the nano to write logfiles onto the SD-Card?
I want to put my bGeigieNano as stationalry sensor via Cast-module outside in a box. But i´ve noticed, that there will be still created a logifle onto the SD-card.
What happen in the worst case when the SC-card is full?
I want to keep the maintenance effort as low as possible.

Philipp,

As far as I know, there is no way, except if you make custom software.
I have been using the sdcard for years. No so much filling up. I do replace it every 5 year. Just out for reliability of it getting corrupt.

I have modified my Nano to blank the display. Otherwise, when it is on all the time after about a year or so, the display needs to be replaced.
I have made a motion sensor for it that triggers the wake-up of the display when I want to see the readouts.

The code should be in GitHub if you need it.

Warm regards,

Good point. I todally forgot about the display.
Im not the coding type. I think i will just disassamble the display. In my planed mounting housing the display wont be visible anyway.

Philipp,

You can also take out the display. All works with display.
For powering, you could is the QI transmitter/receiver and keep the pelican 1010 case closed. We also have grades for the wireless changers.

 Hir Rob,

i have bad experience with my bought nano. Looks like my preowner who has "self assembled" this unit did something wrong. If i squeeze the unit into a pelican case and close it, i got random drops to 0 CPM. When the cover is open, everything is fine. Maybe something is pressing against each other. In addition, with the cast-module mounted, I cant get the case closed. So bye bye pelican.
I will buy a elecrical case with enought space and mount it inside. So i can power it directly via USB cable. On this way i cant see the display even, so i dont care if the display is disassembled.
I will post some pictures, when everything is finished and ready to run.

Philipp,

Sorry to hear that. I have seen some build on the bGeigieNano that are “high” builds.
You can take the black plastic of the pin headers of to lower the height (Pavlo in Ukraine had done this too).

Finally the ordered plastic box arrived and now everything is good to go.
I placed the nano on a metal backing plate and tha whole unit is mounted insde the box.

The nano gets charged directly via cable. And is now placed on my balcony. Later I will mount it on the railing.

Nice job!!!!!

Looks nearly like a Pointcast(https://safecast.org/pointcast-rollout-part-1/)!!!!
We had fixed Ethernet and 3G wireless versions developed. Now in sunset (same as https://rt.safecast.org) due to the not scalable design of the system. Issues were lots of work to install, needed power and keeping administration took too much time.

I´ve just noticed since the beginning of the year, my meassured radiation gone slighly up (see diagram).

Last week i noticed why that was. The sensor tipped over in the storm and the bGeigie "meassured" the surface of my balcony tiles...

Yea... lessons learnd I should finally mount the case where it belongs -.-

Thank you for sharing your findings.

BTW. We (Safecast team) are getting close to an Android app release/testing for the bGeigieCast and the bGeigieZen. Thanks to the great contribution of Bjorn Lagerquist (a Zen user).

Hi Rob,

This display projection looks great.
Any chance it will work with my bGeigie in Australia?

Cheers,

William

William,

I think that will work. You need a bGeigieNano and bGeigieCast that can be ordered at https://bgeigiezen.safecast.jp or a bGeigieZen.

Hugs and peace,
rob

William,

If correctly set up, the bGeigieCast and the bGeigieZen can display real-time on (a work in progress) the new Safecast Grafana server at https://grafana.safecast.jp/d/be2ow1cu38t1ce/test-gateway?orgId=1&from=now-2d&to=now&timezone=browser&var-device_urn_name=geigiecast-zen:65006&refresh=5m&kiosk
