Dear all,

Just saw a public statement from Priti and it is disturbing to learn lapses even within the feminist organisations.

We do need to reflect within our own movements and push for accountability.

Dear Priti,

I am sure this must have been a difficult decision to make but I want to laud your courage.

With best regards,
Kripa

Dear friends,

I am writing to bring to your attention a public statement I have issued regarding my recent employment termination at the International Women’s Rights Action Watch Asia Pacific (IWRAW AP).

As you know, I am a strong advocate for women's rights and have dedicated my career to promoting gender equality on a global scale.

I was deeply honoured to join IWRAW AP as Executive Director in October 2023.  Unfortunately, my experience did not meet my expectations of the organization, and I was abruptly terminated without any conversation or due process.

My public statement, attached as a PDF, details the specific concerns I have raised about my treatment by IWRAW AP, including:

  • Lack of proper relocation support and #WorkPermit mismanagement.
  • Unclear onboarding procedures and inadequate financial resources.
  • Abrupt termination without #DueProcess.
  • Shortcomings in #Governance and #BoardOversight.

While I have long admired IWRAW AP’s mission, my experience raises questions about their internal governance and adherence to human rights and ethical labour standards.

I believe transparency and accountability are essential for a healthy and thriving feminist movement. I hope this statement serves as a catalyst for self-reflection within the NGO sector and encourages organizations to uphold high ethical and legal standards in their employment practices.

I remain committed to the vital work undertaken by feminist organizations globally. However, I believe it's crucial for us to address internal issues to ensure the well-being of our staff and the integrity of our work.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Priti Darooka

Thanks Kripa for all your support and thanks to all of you who have sent messages of solidarity and support too. Please do share the statement widely to allow

It is extremely challenging even as feminist to stand up against our very own feminist leaders.

With lots of love,

Priti
