Hello all,

I'm sure this point might have been already included but in case we haven't, I would urge to have digital alternatives to physical signed documents as a must have non-negotiable requirement.

Dear Siddhant,

Thank you for bringing this up. I completely agree with you.  Digital alternatives should be a must-have for efficiency, security, and convenience. Happy to discuss implementation if needed.

Best regards,

Hi Siddhant,

Thanks to you, too, for throwing this into perspective. Absolutely correct that there can be no let-up in any case for incorporating digital alternatives where physical signing needs to happen across accessibility, time, and also security factors, of course.

1. Review Current Infrastructure: Determine what systems are currently in place and whether they support digital signing (e.g., DSC, Aadhaar eSign, DocuSign, etc.).

2. Compliance & Security Standards: Ensure that the selected digital alternative is in compliance with legal frameworks such as the IT Act, GDPR, and other applicable policies.

3. Implementation Roadmap: Outline a phased approach to integrating digital signatures, including stakeholder training and necessary software integrations.

4. Accessibility Consideration: The solution must be inclusive. There must be complete access to the solution for any individual with disabilities. That would also align with the very best practices for accessibility.

5. Pilot Testing & Feedback Loop: Controlled implementation would achieve gathering all feedback and optimizing the process before full-scale rollout.

Would be happy to collaborate on defining the next actionable steps.

Looking forward to your thoughts.

Best regards,
Bhavani Shankar

Hello Muskan,

Being an entrepreneur with Retinitis Pigmentosa having current accounts in multiple banks, account opening, KYC, Re-KYC, signing checques have been big challenges where my own sign keeps varying. The bank Relationship Managers settle these things at their end eventually as they are always present when I'm signing documents. But KYC kind of a procedure involves signing on multiple pages where variations are also many.
First and foremost, these processes should be made online and driven through Aadhar based OTP to finally sign the documents. Further, with two factor authentication being implemented across major platforms, use of Authenticator apps can be leveraged.
I wonder if there could be possibility of integrating Aadhar based OTP authentication and Authenticator apps together for better security. This might involve use of OTP for initial setup followed by QR generated by Aadhar website for integration with Authenticator apps. These further already integrate with device-based authentications including pins, fingerprint scanning and face ids.

Hi Siddhant,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! You’ve pointed out a really important issue. I completely agree that banking processes need to be more accessible.

What I liked about your idea:

  • Moving KYC and document signing online with Aadhaar-based OTP would make things so much easier.
  • Adding Authenticator apps for extra security is a smart move.
  • Using a QR code from Aadhaar to link with the Authenticator app is a great way to simplify the process.
My thoughts:
  • This could be a significant improvement for people who struggle with signatures, reducing dependency on bank staff.
  • It would also make banking more secure without adding extra hassle.
  • Using device-based authentication (PIN, fingerprint, face ID) along with Aadhaar OTP could make the process easier.
  • If banks and regulators adopt this, it could benefit not just people with disabilities but anyone facing signature-related issues.
  • Maybe we can explore how to take this idea further.

Would love to hear your thoughts on the next steps. Let’s discuss!

Warm Regards,
Muskan

Hello all,

To extend this idea further on implementation front, I was looking at digilocker and seemingly, it is a great source of truth in terms of government documents that an individual holds. This platform is not greatly accessible yet but it implies that we don't have to run after multiple government bodies to make their website accessible. Making digilocker accessible can suffise to begin with.

As an employer, I see great benefit in leveraging the digilocker platform for background verification of employees. They already have mechanism for such adaptation. Going digital with important documents is like half the journey completed especially when these are available in an unified platform. Making this platform accessible is the second half that needs to be achieved. I think this is a low hangng fruit.

Now, same set of documents when need to be attached for other purposes like in bank processes, all it needs is to have banks their systems integrated as API consumers leveraging the "Partner" role already provided by digilocker. If digilocker is already considered to be a source of truth, let all security be in plate of Government rather than in hands of bank acquired applications.
