“S4A.app” is damaged and can’t be opened. You should move it to the Trash.

I can't confirm the problem, I have Mavericks installed, too, and everything works just as before. Maybe do what it says: move the app to trash, download and reinstall it.

Please follow the next instructions (extracted from here):

1. Go to  > System Preferences… > Security & Privacy > General
   
2. Change "Allow applications downloaded from:" to "Mac App Store and identified developers" or "Anywhere"

On Sierra (macos 10.12.1), which doesn't offer the "Allow downloaded from Anywhere" option, I am getting the same message about "“S4A.app” is damaged and can’t be opened. You should move it to the Trash."

I was able to get S4A to run once on this machine by doing control-click on the "S4A.image" file instead of the S4A.app file -- I saved a project, but now it is an hour later and S4A won't run any more. Back to the "damaged... trash" message, regardless of how many times I trash it and re-download the installer and re-install. Sigh.

Don't know if this is an issue still, but follow this quide to enable the "Anywhere" option in Sierra.

Also, launch the image, not the S4A.app file. If you do launch S4A.app a file select dialog will be displayed and the only file you can choose is the cat-face image file in the application directory.

I was able to get S4A running on macos 10.12 Sierra following your
guidance and your link to

For any other mac administrators on Sierra, here is the procedure to
get S4A running.

(1)--Turn off mac gatekeeper from terminal ("sudo spctl
--master-disable"). Be sure to turn it back on! (step 3 below)
(2)--Run S4A.image …for me, finally success! (No more message about
"S4A is damaged..."). I also ran S4A.app successfully. (S4A.app pops
up a dialog box which can be directed to happily open
/Applications/S4A/S4A.image). This might not be necessary but I didn't
want it to later re-ask for permission to run.
(3)--Turn gatekeeper back on (terminal: "sudo spctl --master-enable").

Afterward S4A.image is still runnable and gatekeeper is on again. Hallelujah.

Simpler.

Just run:

sudo xattr -rc /Applications/S4A/

from terminal after dragging S4A to the applications folder.

The other options didn't work for me. This one did.
