Flying Woodrat on Tuesday 10/14/25?

Steve Baran here, USHPA #16529 H4. I'm considering heading through Medford at the end of a road trip towards home (N of Spokane). We have the time to spend Monday and Tuesday night in Medford (or nearby area). I've not flown nor been to Woodrat previously. I've learned a bit about the launches and LZs from your website today. Some additional things I'd like to learn are mainly logistics: condition of the road to the top (2WD, 4WD?) and the time it takes to drive from launch to the LZs, etc.

I'm looking at this forecast:

Currently for Tuesday it looks like the N launch on Woodrat should be OK (light E and NE afternoon winds are forecasted). I'll likely be choosing a Falcon 4-195 to fly. I also have a U2-160 with me.

I'll appropriately join RVHPA should Woodrat look flyable on Tuesday. Any comments/suggestions/tips, etc. are warmly welcomed :)

Its a bit far off to be sure but Tuesday looks like the first flyable day between now and Tuesday.   w

You are fine with 2wd for the road up to top launch. Plan on 30 minutes from the parking ara at Hunter LZ.  I'd suggest you join the Telegram link where you can generally see there what pilots are flying on a given day.  Link is on the website.  https://rvhpa.org/google-groups-and-telegram/    Also you can check out real time winds on launch and webcams on https://rvhpa.org/weather/current-woodrat-area-winds/

Just a reminder you need to have a current USHPA and RVHPA visiting pilot  membership to use the bail out and nearby landing areas.   Link to join and purchase your membership are on the website.   https://rvhpa.org/membership/membership-form-page/  Also note the memberships are for the calendar year   but memberships purchased now will be good for all of 2026.
