Hi,

I am starting a thread where i hope some people also post some links to
places where people can buy sensors which are supported by rtl_433.

I am starting with a temperature/humidity sensor which supports the
prologue protocol.

at the moment its out of stock but i guess it might come back:

They may be out on eBay, but you can also get them from Banggood:

I am not too thrilled about the quality: out of three that I bought, only one is still transmitting. The others still display the temperature/humidity, but I can no longer pick them up, even when they are in the same room as the receiver.

When I've added samples to rtl_433_tests, I usually put an Amazon.com link for the device in addition to a link to the manufacturer's page. I figure this should be reasonably robust for identifying the specific device.

What I think would be helpful is to have a page (or file) that lists supported devices and (desirable) capabilities. Particularly, the RF capabilities which wouldn't be listed in the spec. sheet such as the robustness of the protocol, to filter out corrupted data, false positives, etc.

Also device ID properties would be good to know:

- can you easily distinguish multiple units? how many?
- is it an ID that changes at every power cycle?

Derailing a little bit the topic, but I have several of those banggood units (about 6). I also had the problem of them "muting", and I suspect is an issue with autolevel, but it's very difficult to test.

Sometimes I see one stopping to transmit, then a few hours after a second one goes missing, and maybe a third one, but if I go to one of those units, take out the battery cover and press the TX buttons a few times I see it being received again, and then the other missing units get to be received again. I suspect some kind of misalignment. I would like the json output to have some receiver section with level info and any other useful data, but until I have time to peek into that I just press TX from time to time.

Cheers.

I would recommend the Ambient Weather F007TH:

Pros:
- Can be set to 8 different channel IDs with 3 DIP switches
- Reports Temperature and Humidity
- Includes a small LCD display which can be switched to Fahrenheit or Celsius
- Short ~60ms message with 3x repeats (total ~180ms), reduces chance TX collisions
- Updates once per minute (not too often), also reduces chance of TX collisions
- Message is encoded in Manchester format with 0.5ms / 1.0ms pulses
- Good transmission range
- Good agreement between multiple sensors of this type
- Works perfectly with rtl_433, has good documentation on the web

Cons:
- Uses 2x AAA batteries instead of 2x AA

Thanks for the Ambient review, that's very helpful.     This should probably go someplace more permanent, a wiki page on the repo, or in a device info markdown file that's part of the repo.

I can contribute the same format for Acurite 592TXR "Tower" Sensor and LaCrosse TX7U that I've been using.  The Ambient sounds like a better choice.

Device: LaCrosse TX7U, $30 Amazon.  https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002NIL10

Pros:

- Reports Temperature and Humidity
- Includes a small LCD display which can be switched to Fahrenheit or Celsius
- 2 x Short 44ms message with only 1 repeat (88 ms total)
- Updates once per minute (not too often), (reduces chance of TX collisions)
- Reliable (I've owned several for probably 5 years)

Cons:
- Cost too high relative to Acurite and Ambient
- No fixed id - 8 bits that resets at every battery change.
- No low battery bits in message (but shows on display)
- Separate messages for temperature and humidity sent in close succession.

Device: Acurite 592TXR 'Tower" Sensor, $13 Amazon, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00T0K8NXC

Pros:

- Reports Temperature and Humidity
- Fixed ID of at least 12-16 bits (doesn't change at battery changes)
- 3 Channel ID settings
- Protocol includes both checksum and parity
- Reasonable cost.
- Low battery warning in message
- LED to indicate transmissions

Cons:
- No display(*)
- Transmits every 18  seconds, 3 copies in each message.  Likely to cause collisions.

(* - There is a new indoor-only sensor from Acurite with a display that is supposed to be compatible. I don't have one.)
