I don't know if this is still "moderators only", but just throwing this out there...
Just checking the temperature here, but wondering if we would consider having real(ish) Saturday Rockville Ultimate when Montgomery County agrees to Phase 3.
We will have to wait for details of what Phase 3 specifically means for outdoor sports in MOCO, but Maryland is allowing up to 250 people for outdoor gatherings as of 9/4/20, so we are no longer restricted to 50 or less once our county follows suit...
You may all know this, but from what I see, currently, Ultimate is listed as a medium-risk sport in Montgomery County and IS allowed under its current phase 2 (link below), albeit in a gathering smaller than 50 and supposed to be social distancing which I know is difficult when attempting to play defense (though some of you don't have this problem.) It does appear that mask-wearing would be ok in place of social distancing, but we all know it makes things difficult (like breathing) in sporting and I assume like me you have seen a lot of people at the grocery store with their mask below the nose - which renders the mask moot as far as I can tell. Plus I am sure they would easily slip off the nose playing a sport... Plus I know for the most part, most of us in the Rockville Group have been attempting to be extra-good and conscientious citizens and limit our exposure during this unprecedented pandemic.
That being said they already have theaters, gyms, and casinos at 50% and I have to believe that is higher risk than playing ultimate in the open air. We should be smart - no high-fiving, take your temperature, stay home if sick at all, maintain distance on the sidelines, set up a table/station with hand sanitizer... etc...
So, we will continue to monitor what Montgomery County says about Phase 3 when they make that decision, but wondering if people are considering getting back out there when that time comes....
Thanks, Dan (Gibby)
