Good morning.

I know the question has been raised about whether Chester Woods will allow fat biking this winter.
I emailed them and received the following response:

Pete,

Yes, the trail will be open again this year. Looking for more of the bike community to step up and assist with grooming trails. If you know of someone, please have them contact me at the number below.

I also asked and got the same confirmation - trails are open for fat tire biking!  They won't be groomed until the next snow event, so you'll take them as you find them.

Tom's reply to my question - note the park's continuing interest in new volunteers to assist with grooming:

Roger,

Yes, the trails are open now for fat tire biking. Staff were out this week and removed some of the hazardous trees that have tipped in recent storm activity. There is some snow, and melting quickly, but shouldn’t interfere with biking recreation.

The trails have mainly been maintain through volunteer help. We now operate grooming equipment with our Rangers which is inside an enclosed cab, making it easier to ride along and learn the process of grooming. Until we get sufficient snow trails will remain as they are today.

If your workday allows you to come visit with staff and meet up with a few of the volunteers that assist with trail grooming. We would love to meet you and see if this would work for your schedule.

I can add you to a distribution list with the other volunteers if you would like to be reminded of when grooming will begin?

Roger, could you do me a favor and pass along another name as a volunteer groomer at Chester Woods?  I can’t seem to find an email for Tom anywhere.

Andrew Shula

Andy contacted the Rochester MN trails group on Facebook. He wants to help groom Chester woods.

Thanks in advance.
