Hello all -
I'll see about attaching a short screen video of what I describe.

Apologies about the video - when I created it I forgot to HIDE my address. When  I tried again to do the video capture the issue was gone. Thus I ended up putting two picture-in-pictures to cover my address info.

macOS Sonoma 14.3.1
RTP 4.6.08 (183)

However I've had the following issue for ages just never posted / asked about it. I worked on this RTP on Thursday and NEVER had the issue. Today - Friday - it crops up again. Then after I created the video it had gone again.

The issue has been around and I have no idea what triggers this.
----
I'm working on an Eclipse 2024 trip with my pins in RTP. Driving to mid-Texas, taking extra days along the way and camping.

Today I wanted to type "no available camping" into pin 16 - Hot Springs NP in Arkansas. I click and get the text cursor under the already added URL. But each character I type at the keyboard causes the focus to change to the pin list!!!

Play by play of the video
Start: the pin list is highlighted in blue
I click after the "no avai" in the Hot Springs info box.
I type and "l" and the focus hops back to the pin list
I click back into the HSNP info box
I type the "a" and the focus jumps back to the pin list.
---
This makes typing info extremely slow!!!
I have this issue on my MacBook Pro and my Mac Pro. Same OS and RTP versions.
The issue appears then after a while goes away only to begin again.
----

First I hope others who have seen this have some understanding of what might trigger the issue.
Second I hope for a software fix. :-)
thank you all
qb

I tried to repeat your issue but I never could. Random bugs are the hardest to track and explain.

Has anyone else here experienced this issue?

Have you tried restarting your Mac wihen this happens? Sometimes the system resources become depleted and rebooting can help.

I think I remember something like this happening to someone years ago, and it turned out it was a third party extension of some sort, text edit related I think. You may want to assure all the system extensions you’re running are up-to-date and not interfering with other apps. You can get an idea of what extensions you’re using by opening the System Settings app, clicking General, then “Login Items.”  Disable anything suspicious.

I’ll continue to keep an eye out for this.
Thanks,
Bill

H m mm. .That sounds annoying   .🤣  .It hasn't happened to me on my Mac PB OS Monterey ver.12.3.7 . .but when i get these w e i r d text related issues with my ancient Macbook Pro® i usually end up opening up either Stickies ® or TextEdit ® and typing whatever i want to insert somewhere and they copying and pasting it in to overcome what ever weird thing that is going on  .      btw - It sounds like a great trip !. i'll be here on Hawk Mt. in Maine branching out from there for viewing  . .with my trusty telescope  (see attached ) w/ the sun filter ( There was a HUGE sunspot just four or five days ago ) AND you can replicate the total solar eclipse  using the ƒree, open sourced   https://stellarium.org/   software. .by inserting a location along the path and then just  . . going to the correct time zone date and time ( Mondy April 8 2024  ) . .and letting it happen . . Give it a try !  Stellarium ® is ƒantastic  .  HTH  ./s, your old ƒriend Steve  . 🍎. . 🤙🏽 .

I have this issue with Macbook 2024 (M4 chip) running Tahoe 26.2.

I try to enter information in the Note field of a Pin and after every letter I type, the cursor jumps to the Route Pin List so the next letter typed actually selects a pin with that first letter. in its name. I have a screen video.

Please assure you’re using the latest Mac version from the Mac App Store. Previous versions had bugs.
Also try restarting your Mac. That seems to fix a lot of issues.
Thanks,
