I have a copy of Road Trip Planner v 4.6.08 on an iMac which is about to be replaced.  I have been checking the files I made about 3 years ago.  The names appear in File: Recent files but I get the message  that the file cannot be opened “ the file does not exist”.  I cannot find any part of the files so that I could open or export them.  I’m happy to update the App and move to iOS on my iPad but not if my old files have gone forever.
Can anyone help me find the files so I can transfer them?  Do they even exist anymore?

The Recents menu simply list files that you previously opened. But if you moved or deleted them, that doesn’t automatically update the Recents menu.  I suggest locating the files using the Finder. Once found simply double-click the file to open it.

This is a fast method to locate all your Road Trip Planner files using the Finder (type Command-F when in the Finder to display this view):

Thanks for the suggestion.  I’d already searched finder but having looked again in more detail it seems there aren’t any roadtrip files saved.  Very sad as I had created some really attractive trip memories.  He ho - my fault!

Are you familiar with using the terminal? If so it can be very useful for finding obscurely located files.

I also use “find any file” (Thomas Templeton) at findanyfile.app or on the Mac App Store. With it you can put in all weird and wonderful combinations that the finder/spotlight don’t seem to be able to handle. It has saved my hide a number of times.

If you want me to, I can throw together a simple terminal app that can sort through your drive to see if there are any files still existing

Good suggestions.

There’s also Apple’s Time Machine app that may help retrieve deleted files.
