We know it’s been awhile since we’ve given many of you an update. It’s been a very busy 2 months. Here’s some highlights:

-Brian had a successful adventure with home therapy and then professional outpatient clinic visits twice a week until the new year where it’s been reduced to 1 day a week. His daily home assignments take 3+ hours.
-Brian managed to go up and down our stairs to the second floor for the first time on December 29. Going up was a piece of cake. Going down we were very mindful of the procedures learned in physical therapy but excited it was successful. Brian was able to organize his studio again. As he says “It was a big deal”. Brian isn’t sleeping upstairs yet as there’s more logistics to be handled, but we are working towards that soon.
-Brian started 90-minute hyperbaric chamber treatments in Boulder on Monday and will complete 40 sessions, 5 days a week. They have gone well so far and thus far, he feels like it’s helping. There are promising studies that show that hyperbaric treatments accelerate neuroplasticity in the brain which we hope will continue to improve his motor skills.
-Brian is also excited that he’s getting some motion and increased sensation in his right hand and arm. He’s been going to the gym to ride the recumbent stationary bicycle/elliptical 3+ times per week. He says, in no time at all he will be back playing hockey. Ha Ha
-Brian recently started taking a drug that will help with some of the post stroke spasticity that his therapists believe is slowing down his recovery. If that doesn’t work, Botox is also an option. Brian thinks if that happens, he’ll get his lips done at the same time. :)
-Two weeks ago, we hired a chef to come to the house to prepare 4 meals (4 servings each) and that has been wonderful and helps us eat healthy and tasty food. And the house cleaners have worked out as well. And if it ever snows again in our area, we have hired someone to come shovel the snow. All very helpful stuff to reduce stress. :)
-Paula has been able to get out of the house a little more because Brian is reasonably self-sufficient.

Thanks again to everyone who helped us with gift cards, etc. because that really helped us get through the time it took to find a good chef. And all of your thoughts and prayers are felt and appreciated.

We’ll try to continue to provide updates as we can.

It’s good progress all around towards recovery it would seem, and good news as well. Thanks for the update, and all the best on your road ahead.

Steve
