RATS:

The 10th Annual Chuck Ferrari Ride will be this Sunday April 2nd. We will leave from Launch Espresso in Golden near the I-70 and Morrison Road exit. Meet at 9:30 AM and kickstands up at 10:00.

We'll be riding a Northern route this year, up past Carter Lake and Masonville, and will end in LaPorte, where those who wish can get a great lunch at Vern's Cafe.
As always, this will be a "charity ride" and I will be taking donations in cash or check for the Humane Society of the South Platte Valley.

Please let me know if you intend to go so we can look for you.  I'd like to leave as close to 10:00 as possible.  The route we are taking is roughly 1 1/2 - 2 hours which should put us at Vern's right at lunchtime.

Right now the weather forecast is great: Sunny and a high of 69. But of course, we all live in Colorado, so check back periodically for updates.

Hope to see you all there!

Martin

For once my schedule is wide open and I should be able to make it!

Jim, if Martin doesn't do paypal, let me know and I can donate cash for you and you can get me back.

Are you planning a specific stop at Carter Lake? If so, and you have a rough idea when you guys might show up, I may just meet up at one of the stops. If you were thinking of doing 93 to 119 (or 36), I would imagine you would arrive in Carter Lake around 11:30am -- just wasn't sure if a stop was planned for a meet up point. Let me know.

Let me look at the map, I think there’s probably a good place to stop.

Chris:  how about the Windjammer roadhouse, just north of the Carter lake marina on the west side of the road. If we roll out at 10 o’clock sharp, we should be there around 11:20.

And I got a problem....

October when I took my bike in for tires to Foothills the service writer noted there was oil on the oil pan. So today I checked over the bike before the ride. Air pressure was 4 lbs low in the front, 2 lbs in the rear.

I checked the oil, and it looked a bit high. The oil pan had a coating of oil and dust... I started tracking it to the, hopeful, source. So I pulled the body panels and it appears to be coming from the rider's left side. There is a missing bolt, to the left of the starter, near where, I believe, the clutch is. See picture....

The position of the radiator overflow tank is on this side, and I noted it is low. (Worrying...)
I went through the shop manual and am not sure what the bolt is. I need to know that.

I need to drain the oil to figure out if I just added too much oil, and it would need to be done if I go to remove the oil pan, and above to check the gasket.

Any ideas about the bolt?

Martin, do you have Venmo? Or just donate online? I am not making the ride... (insert me grumbling here)

Jim,

From the parts diagram I found on the triumphstore website the bolt is either M6x25 or M4x25. They list the bolt by the engine number.

My question is it's a M6 which can be found at ACE hardware.

Jim,

I’m unfamiliar with the motor itself but it’s not uncommon for engines used across different platforms to have lugs or tapped holes on the block that are not used on every model. For example a fairing stay used on a Trophy being unused on an Explorer. Or vice versa. You get the idea. Maybe it’s not used on your bike?

Bob,

I believe your size is possible correct. Heard from the Trophy message board, the poster being very experienced and reliable believes it is a M6x28mm.

I will check with a M6 bolt if it matches. I am not sure I have a M4.

I will check the length with calipers this AM when I am dropping the oil to check its state.
