Jake: I haven't pulled anything out yet but I did measure the charge at idle and it is only 12.8v. Even when I rev the engine it stays at 12.8v.
On our long ride yesterday battery was dead after lunch. We got it bump started and I rode home, 80 miles at 70+ MPH and the battery was, again, dead when I got home. That's when I put the voltmeter on it and discovered it was only showing 12.8v.
From what I've seen on the Intertoobz, this is a classic symptom of a failing rectifier/regulator.
I just wanted to know if maybe somebody had upgraded their R/R and had a spare one laying around I could swap in. It's not a terribly expensive part ($129) but not dirt cheap either. I figured if somebody had a good one I could swap it in and see if that fixed the problem.
