Greetings Maria,
I am in receipt of your email sent to the executive committee for the YCDP. While your comments are highly disappointing, they are also inaccurate. First, my name is Marlene Bell, not Irene Bell. Second, I was not in attendance at the most recent endorsement meeting. I resigned from the YCDP in June. Last, your analysis of the March endorsement process is completely incorrect. I was the coordinator for that meeting, To correct your statement, Jesse voted to support Ed Prieto. His behavior towards you was not remarkable, but he did disagree with you, which was all of our prerogative. Since the position of the committee was split, the committee to moved to a “no endorsement” recommendation.
I’m sure that Jesse’s endorsement of candidates for any election season is based on the knowledge and expertise of the candidates running and based on the same when considering his vote, past or present. Your opinion is valued, but your opinion should be derived from the facts; your opinion is not a substitute for facts. As such, it appears that your misinterpretation of recent facts is designed to smear a good candidate for public office. Your effort to damage one person’s character is a reflection of your own. I would caution you not to do that.
Characteristic of election outcomes, voters seek to install the most expert and knowledgeable. Please understand that this is always my goal. I have no agenda that would be commensurate with racial profiling. As a retired educator and forever an advocate of public education, racial equity, gender equity, and social justice. Any of the above used for the purposes of opportunity, or damage, has never been part of my agenda or actions. I hope you are aligned to this value as well.
Best of luck,
Marlene

Thanks for your response. Maria’s comments are completely off base. Jesse’s participation in the work of the Central Committee has been without bias but not without an opinion of the issues based on his knowledge of similar issues and/or the related facts. She is likewise off base in her assessment of the Ed Prieto endorsement meeting. I did not serve on the most recent endorsement panel, in August, because I’d resigned from the Committee in June.
I served on the central committee for 9 years and my name has always been, before and since, Marlene Bell not Irene Bell.
Thanks again!
Marlene

I just now read this email. I was not aware of this communication by Maria.
Seems like she is unaware of my endorsement from Jesse and regular context..
Let me know how I can be of assistance, or if there is a need for me to send an email clarifying to the original recipients.

Subject: Superintendent of Public Education Jesse Ortiz Endorsing a Republican Charter-School Candidate
Dear Yolo County Central Committee, I formally request removal of Jesse Ortiz's Democratic endorsement.
What is the procedure for removing an endorsement??? I wish to file a complaint for violations of our demoratic principals and bylaws, and request removal of the endorsement. I also wish to file a complaint of sexual and racial discrimination against Jesse Ortiz with the Committee and with our state office. I wish this matter be placed on our next agenda as an action item.
Additionally, Jesse Ortiz indicated to me in a phone conversation that he would ensure my oppenant would win, now that he knew I was running. He is mysynogistic towards me. He made this statement when I phoned to inform him of my candidacy.
He has refuses to support the two Democratic Latinas running for office. It is hypocritical. He does not deserve the endorsement. He is in violation of our bylaws. He refuses contact with candidate Melissa Moreno. As a superintendent he has a professional obligation to meet with her.
He endorsed Republicanist DA Reisig in June without consequence. He has done it again by endorsing Matt Taylor - a WHITE REPUBLICAN MALE. Jesse Ortiz acts like a Machista and is blantant about it....Ask Don Saylor and Irene Bell about his conduct towards me during the endorsement interviews after he attempted to protect Ed Prieto's sexist behavior. His behavior was shocking. I will not seat idle or be silent; especially after spending thousands of dollars to run for office. Please do not expect me to be idle regarding this endorsement of Matt Taylor. Lack of action on the Committee's part, could cause a litigious situation for the Committee. You are hereby informed. This message requires immediate action.
Sadly, too many times, it is only when litigation is filed that some complaints are taken seriously. Please don't take Jesse Ortiz's endorsement of Matt Taylor lightly or without consequence. I am so sorry to place the Committee in such a hard situation, but our bylaws are our laws. Jesse Ortiz is not exempt.
Further, it is only proper the Yuba Community College District be informed of these sexist actions towards me and of his endorsement. Additionally, a complaint about my concerns will be filed with the Butte County Voter Registrar in order to bring into question his conduct for possible violation of the qualifications and requirements for office. I will do the same with the Fair Practices Politcal Act for unethical practices and will include sexual and racial discrimination complaints. It is important the voters of Yuba Community College District be informed. They deserve to know this information. It is critical for their voting decisions.
Lastly, Jesse Ortiz is using his influence as a public official, as a superintendent of education to impact an election against a minority woman in favor of a White male. This is being done with mysynogestic conduct, too boot. For this reason, it is only proper a complaint be filed with Yolo Superior Court to determine if I am correct in my complaint about racial discrimination.
Again, I am so sorry to bring this action about. Please keep in mind, this is a consequence of Jesse Ortiz's actions; not mine. Dont be fooled into blaming me for speaking up. Please don't kill the messenger.
I request a response within 48 hrs. Time is of essence Absentee Ballots arrive Oct 8th.
