Earth Week 2026 – Recycling Guide for Ridgeside

In honor of Earth Week 2026, we want to encourage everyone to help keep our community green! Below is a guide and friendly reminder on what we can recycle using our Republic Services Single-Stream recycling program here in Ridgeside using designated recycling bins set out every other week.

Accepted Items:

  • Cardboard: Clean boxes (both small and large; please flatten them).

  • Metals: Aluminum, metal, and tin.

  • Paper: All types including paper towels

  • Plastics: Bottles and containers labeled with recycling symbols #1 through #7.

Important Instructions:

  • Clean and Dry: Please ensure all items are rinsed out and free of food residue.

  • Strict Adherence: Please do not place any unlisted items in the recycling bag, as the entire bag will be rejected by the facility if contaminated.

Thanks to all for recycling.
Here is the email from Republic below.

Kind regards,

Linda Allen

Thanks for the info.  Just for clarification, many plastic produce containers do not have numbers.  Are these acceptable for recycling or not?

Thanks again for the clarification.

Thank you, Linda!

Just checking on the plastic numbers. It seems to change every year! I was under the impression that only #2 and #5 were accepted. And then it seemed they only took numbers 1 and 7. Are we now sure that it's truly all plastics, 1-7?

I appreciate the time and consideration.

Years ago, I was part of the committee that researched options for trash and recycling in Chattanooga. We were pretty thorough even touring their facility where things are sorted. At that time even though the lids still said 1-7, the Republic sales rep said the market for 3-7 had all but gone away, so it was only numbers 1 and 2 that were being sold to companies that recycled responsibly. They do sort things on large conveyor belts. Having said that, things change all the time so it might be different now. Best practice, which is close to impossible these days, avoid purchasing plastic.

I will forward this thread of questions to our Republic contact and get back with the correct information. She’s usually very quick to respond.

I have another question related to recycling...How do we get an extra can? We typically have more recycling than trash so it would be fantastic if we could have a weekly pick up vs biweekly or two cans. I've called the number to request a second can but never received a reply.

Thanks,
