The new Search bar is quite sleek and minimalist and I appreciate that for my own use. I am running into difficulties with users with less experience who find it hard to navigate the new way of searching. Some even think there isn't a way to do it anymore.

I know there is not a way currently to modify this, but perhaps a future release might allow a custom search experience option for those willing to give up some of that valuable screen real estate?

Are you able to describe what your users believe to be missing in their search experience?

Hi - It's the ability to open Search and see simple options like before.

Grok is writing a plugin for me. It is starting to work. I will let you know if I get it running after vacation. Is there a way to share it with you so you can also see what happens when you try the plugin I add?

You can configure much of this yourself without a plugin. This is what I see when I open the tools icon :

I have the Image Banks plugin enabled. Named Persons has Simple Search checked in the metadata config.

These two config lines enable the Resource Types box:

$search_includes_themes = true;  (themes is the old name for Featured Collections)
$search_includes_resources = true;

..and I think this one does the date search:

$simple_search_date = true;

You can add other fields by checking the Simple Search box in the metadata field configuration.

How did you get Named Persons to appear? I get the following:

Admin > System > Metadata fields > Named Persons

Check the box that says “Show in simple search”

That’s from memory as I’m not at my computer but I think it’s correct.

JIm is correct on what to displays in Simple Search.

The new design is causing some real “who moved my cheese” moments but is mostly excellent. The new Simple Search along with the other UI changes, is a work in progress, and Montala will be adding to its functionality.  The changes make the mobile version of ResourceSpace functional enough to point users to when they want to get photographs off their phones.

Is anyone else mourning the loss of the shortcut keystroke “T” to toggle the collection bar? This is hardwired into my fingers, and now I can’t use it. The disappearance of the browse-by-workflow in the sidebar also felt like a loss until I remembered we could set up dash tiles that perform the same function. In some ways these are better because the number of resources in each state can be displayed directly on the tile. There are so many ways to accomplish the same task in ResourceSpace.
