Starting with Gerrit 3.13 the code-owners plugin became incompatible and can't be used anymore, https://gerrit.googlesource.com/plugins/code-owners shows active development only until Dec. 4th 2025 and official Gerrit releases 3.13.x (Nov 2025, right?) are not mentioned on the plugin page and the issue tracker does not show any progress, assignees or even views (only mine).
Also (my) attempts to build from source resulted in compilation errors...
Any chance this gets support for future Gerrit releases?

I would suggest you try and raise an issue at [1]. As far as I know, code-owners is kept up to date with master mainly by Google, but stable-branch support isn't really a guarantee.
As community we support Gerrit and core-plugins, which code-owners isn't.

Have you tried looking at the owners plugin[2] instead? It has some cool features like groups support, and, as of last year, the UI part is also pretty much equivalent to the code-owners.
I give a run down of the differences at [3].

I bisected the latest version of the code-owners plugin working with gerrit stable-3.13
which is 33f4785c68f90b5baff5def72b69bfaebb4221a1 and created the stable-3.13 branch on this commit.
the new stable-3.13 branch.

Thanks a lot!
I tried something similar but failed miserably - I managed to build Gerrit@master with the code-owners plugin manually checked out at gerrit/plugins, just to see that master doesn't reflect the same changes as the v3.xx tags.
Using one of those I ran into compilation errors (plugins/code-owners/java/com/google/gerrit/plugins/codeowners/backend/ChangedFiles.java:198: error: cannot find symbol diffOperations.getModifiedFiles ..)
What exactly did you check out (both gerrit and code-owners)?

I tried to raise a ticket, but I'm not allowed to, this is why I posted here..

Regarding the `owners` plugin: no I didn't try it yet, but I'll have a look into. Currently we have some tooling around the `code-owners` API, so a switch won't happen easily..

Apologies, its definitely not clear enough and you're not the first to say this.
You need to be a member of this list in order to be able to raise tickets, this was done in order to try and reduce spam on the issue tracker.

If you try again you should be able to raise issues now.
