Hi,

We're working on a lib module at SAP which will function as a replacement for index-elasticsearch. Happy to hear any concerns/questions on the topic. One argument in favor of opensearch is the licensing.

I think it makes sense for the new libmodule to be named in the same pattern as elasticsearch (modules/index-elasticsearch), as it fills the same role. So: modules/index-opensearch

Thanks all,
Wendy

Hi Wendy,

Thank you for sharing the news.
Do you already have the code, even in a prototype state, of the new module?

Luca.

Hi Luca,

No, we don't have the code ready for review yet. Should I re-request when it is?

That would be best, as we had in the past (and I’m guilty of it as well) repos created that became ghosts.
As you know, a Gerrit project, once created, it’s hard to delete / rename in Gerrit.

Doesn’t have to be fully production ready, an MVP would suffice to start!

Luca.

Hi Luca,

I put the index-opensearch module here on github with a README explaining the differences and work left to do. It builds successfully at present, but is missing SSL/TLS setup.

SGTM as MVP.

Does anyone have any objections?

Luca.

I cloned the repo and ran build and tests, build and plugin tests succeed,
also Gerrit acceptance tests succeed when using OpenSearch instead of Lucene.
Only 2 plugin-manager tests fail with an NPE but this seems to be unrelated.

So yes, please let's create the repo on gerrit-review as the home of this new plugin.

Thanks Wendy, that's great progress

@Wendy what’s your username on Gerrit-Review?
