I just came down with a cold today, I either caught it while shopping, or at the rLab. Anybody else got a cold? Just hoping it's a mild one and not the nasty one I've been hearing so much about!
Stay well,
H

No blame implied, by the way! Just curious to know what kind of cold I'm in for. :-/

Hi Helen,

Caught my daughters cold this morning. No fever, just a sore throat and the additional annoying snotty-bot along with feeling a bit weaker. Loads going around in the schools atm.

Get well soon!

[xkcd]

May be a cartoon of text that says "COVID HAS MADE ME so CURIOUS ABOUT COLDS. THE NEXT TIME I GET ONE, I WANT TO KNOW WHICH VIRUS IT IS SPECIFICALLY. A RHINOVIRUS? RSV? MILD INFLUENZA? OR SOMETHING WEIRD LIKE METAPNEUMOVIRUS? HOW DISTINCT ARE THEY? COULD YOU LEARN TO TELL THEM APART? SEE, I WONDER! I COULD GET A SEQUENCER FROM WORK... SEVERAL YEARS LATER... AH YES, THIS ONE HAS THE RICH, FULL-BODIED BOUQUET OF RSV, BUT THE HEADY CONGESTION LENDS IT LINGERING RHINOVIRUS NOSEFEEL. *COUGH* QUITE RIGHT! A"

You get well soon too, V! I love the xkcd thing. It's a good point, given how much of our lives we spend with colds, how nameless and unknowable they are! And also that there is basically no cure for them...
Mind you, thanks to lockdown, I think this is the first cold that I've had since 2019, and I used to get them all the time. Yay for social distancing :D

There's no cure but cold and flu are also airborne, so face masks still
limit spread significantly, both on the side of already infected donor
as well as the not-yet-infected potential host!

It's Covid! Just got the results of my PCR test. I hope everyone else is OK.

You should consider yourself exposed, if you were at the Hackspace on either of the two occasions I was there recently (18th and 20th Nov). I don't have the tracing app on my phone because it's too old to run it - they don't seem to have a contingency plan for that :D So, you haven't been pinged, but you should probably be cautious and consider yourself potentially infected.

Everyone else still Covid-free?

No, sadly – but nothing to do with rLab – just living with a teacher and a school age child, it’s frankly inevitable given the populist medical illiteracy of government policy.

Sorry to hear it, get well soon! My official isolation ended today but I'm still not fit for much. :-/
