Jammed key safe - anyone prepared to have a fiddle with it?

A disabled friend of mine has a health crisis right now and is receiving care visits 3 times a day. Unfortunately the key box outside her front door has stopped working. It's quite old - but it hasn't had constant use, so I think something seizing up is more likely than something wearing out.
Would anyone who understands this sort of mechanism be prepared to take a look at it? It's off the wall, so I can deliver it to you.
cheers,
Helen

I don't have a photo but it's very similar to this one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Wall-Mounted-Home-Security-Fittings/dp/B00VOXKUIE/

I'd just replace it if it's needed for carers

If you want to know how to open it / reveal it's inner workings there are plenty of examples on youtube

Kind regards

Hi Helen, while a supporter of repair and reuse I have to agree with Gerald on this and propose you buy a new one.
I think Toolstation may have suitable devices in stock locally if you need to move quickly.
Post again here if you need help with procurement, paying for it, fitting, or setup.
Thanks,
Richard

Thanks both! I think we will get a new one, then. Been reading reviews, looks like we need to spend about £60 for a decent one, plus then paying to get it fitted. So you can see why I hoped to fix the existing one. Hey ho! :)

Hi Helen

If you want to drop it with me I will have a go at it.  Address below.

IF it is indeed at all seized – I would tend to agree with Richard and Gerald – there’s no point to ‘fix’ it if it might go wrong at a critical moment, better to take the pain at a moment of your choosing.

But, this sort of product is often simply poorly lubricated, and it might be that giving it a good go-over with the right lubricants not only does the trick but leaves it in a better position for the future… anyway I’m willing to have a look at it and confirm whether the others’ suspicions are correct, or it can be CONFIDENTLY fixed…

Cheers,

Alex Gibson

Thanks Alex, very kind! In fact my friend has decided to get a new one, and has managed to line someone up to fit it tomorrow. So we'll jettison the old one. As the others here have said, better not to take a chance with something like this! Though I have indeed wondered if it was just a matter of lubrication. I don't suppose anyone has ever oiled it.
cheers,
Helen
