Attached photo of the iron in question.

This tool was stupidly cheap in Lidl, and was remarkably good to use, until it inevitably failed after a pretty short lifetime, due to the tip coming apart at some spot welds, and the filament breaking inside.  I know, never buy cheap tools, but I've taken it apart and the rest looks good, it's just the tip was badly made.

I can only find one source of the tips, on Amazon, for about 80% of the cost of the whole iron.   Possibly someone bought a load, harvested the 18650 cells and is selling the rest as spares?

Before I go for that regardless, as I did like the tool enough, can anyone recognise the type of tip connection it is, and where generic tips could be found?

It looks just like a small flashlight bulb thread, with the same solder end to it.

Could this be reconditioned even?

Cheers
Alex

The thread looks almost exactly like an E10 bulb thread but is 9.2mm across.

Struggling to find any just like it - especially as Weller sell a soldering iron with actual light bulb in it using this thread!

Found RadioShack in the US selling exactly what I need pretty cheaply – but won’t post outside the US.

Not sure why they’re bothering to have a trade war with China when most US companies can’t be bothered to sell to the ‘rest of the world’…

Off to AliExpress etc with a few more keywords…
