Hi rLabbers,
The Boxford CNC milling machine has now been properly commissioned and
is ready for general use. If you've always wanted to make things out of
metal instead of just plastic then nows the time to come forward and get
your induction. If you'd like an idea of what the machine is capable of
then I've shoved a video up on the rLab youtube channel at
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-0FMsCgrvdA

Inductions for the boxford are rather more complex than for most of the
tools that rLab has because it's got everything that 3D printing
requires, plus everything that milling machines require, but we can show
you all of that and how to use it to get the objects you want made.

The inductions come in 3 levels with different durations and
requirements, they are

------

Full Boxford training workshop, this is for people who have limited or
no prior experience of working with milling machines, this workshop
consists of a 3 hour classroom session and a 2 hour workshop session
with the Boxford. You will be provided with a design to work from during
the induction. This workshop costs £45 and includes your first set of
tools and some material to work with to introduce you to the machine.
Requirements for this workshop are

* Have an Autodesk account and basic familiarity with Fusion-360
* Have a laptop capable of running Fusion 360
* Have designed something from scratch in Fusion 360
* Have been inducted on the 3D printer and used it to make something of
your own design
* Be able to use the compressor (or attend a session on that first)

------

Standard Boxford induction, this is for people who have prior experience
using milling manual machines but limited or no experience with CNC
milling machines. It consists of a 90 minute classroom session and a 2
hour workshop session with the Boxford. You will be provided with a
design to work from during the induction. This workshop costs £45 and
includes your first set of tools and some material to work with to
introduce you to the machine. Requirements for this workshop are

* Prior experience using manual milling machines
* Have an Autodesk account and basic familiarity with Fusion-360
* Have a laptop capable of running Fusion 360
* Have designed something from scratch in Fusion 360
* Be able to use the compressor (or attend a session on that first)

------

Mini-induction, this is for people with extensive prior experience using
CNC milling machines, it will consist of a 1-2 hour workshop session
with the Boxford. You will be expected to provide your own design,
toolpaths (in fusion 360, must takes less than 1 hr to run and less than
5 tool-changes), your own materials and your own tools. There is no
charge for this induction. Requirements for this workshop are

* Extensive Prior experience using CNC milling machines
* Have an Autodesk account and good familiarity with Fusion-360's CAM system
* Be able to use the compressor (or attend a session on that first)
* Bring your own tools and materials

------

If you're interested in an induction then please contact me either in
this thread or directly via email. Let me know which type of induction
you need and an idea of your typical availability, and I'll try to
organize people into suitable groups

Steve

P.S. The compressor is off-line owing to a failure of the pressure
control so you can't practice with it right now, parts are on order and
repair is expected by the end of the week.

P.P.S. if you've already contacted me and asked for an induction on the
machine, no need to contact me again unless you need to change your
preferred induction type or availability, I'll be in touch when there's
a suitable group if I haven't already.

Thanks again Steve for recent round of CNC inductions, brilliantly put together. Highly recommended.

Thanks also to Toby, Richard and the rest of the team who have recommissioned the Boxford and updated and hardened it for modern hackspace use. Been a long journey to get to the point of an induction ready tool!

Kind regards,
