Dear rdflib developers,

We take great pleasure in announcing the rdflib 5.0.0 release!

https://github.com/RDFLib/rdflib/releases/tag/5.0.0
https://pypi.org/project/rdflib/5.0.0/
https://rdflib.readthedocs.io/en/stable/
https://rdflib.dev

Thanks to all of you who have contributed PRs and Issues to make this release happen! It is such a big release, GitHub refuses to automatically generate a diff from 4.2.2!

Poll for Py2 support
--------------------------
rdflib 5.0.0 has been proposed as the last rdflib release to support Python 2 (and 3.4) due to the maintenance overhead of supporting multiple versions and legacy tie-ins that prevent features of Python 3.5+ being utilised.

We would like to find out if there is strong interest in the rdflib development community in supporting Python 2 (and 3.4) going forward.

Please indicate your interest/lack of interest in Python 2 (and 3.4) support by adding your reaction to this poll:

https://github.com/RDFLib/rdflib/issues/1014

Planning for 6.0.0
------------------------
With this tidy-up release done (bar any urgent bug fixes!) we are keen to start working on new features for 6.0.0.

If you are keen to participate in planning for 6.0.0, please just let us maintainers (Natanael, Ashley and Nick) know as we will schedule a videoconference planning session within the next fortnight.

Cheers,

Nick, Natanael and Ashley

Dear rdflib-dev,

A reminder to add your opinion to the poll linked to below if you require Python 2 support for future releases. Votes so far indicate we should drop it and I’ll close the poll in a few days (weekend).

At this stage, we would need a very compelling requirement to keep supporting Python 2 & 3.4 with future versions, such as a large community that uses one of those versions, remembering that 5.x will always support 2 & 2.4

Thanks,

Nick
