Hi all,

After many planned and unplanned delays I was able to finish the classic RC2014 and hook it up to my iMac (OS X with CoolTerm). Measured each stage on the scope and a controlled power supply only silly mistakes were: the R1 on the serial board and selecting the ROM bank. The latter is a bit of a question still to me as I do not know what ROM I received. There's no sticker on hit. Selecting the address lines A15 - A13 on zero gives me the Grant Searle Basic

Ok

So in that sense I'm pleased very much so! So how do I figure out which ROM is in the 27C512? I have the MiniPro TL 866 and longing to reprogram and/or order more ROM's . :-)

Appreciate the help on this, regards, Chris

Hi Chris,

I'm glad you're up and running :-)

Your RC2014 was ordered in 2016, and back then there was only 1 ROM available, so they didn't need stickers.  It is Grant Searles 32k BASIC.  Based on the ROM Decoding page, it is a R0000000 (https://rc2014.co.uk/1515/decoding-rom-labels/).  So, only the first 8k bank is used, and you have 7 blank banks that you can fill up.  The ROM images I supply are on GitHub (https://github.com/RC2014Z80/RC2014/tree/master/ROMs/Factory) as well as a few more bits that you might want to play around with.

Cheers

Spencer

Hi all,

As I'm connected to my full monty RC2014 classic on an iMac with OS X I'm using Coolterm to connect. As such it runs fine, with the exception of send a file. Whatever setting I use it breaks up in all kinds of wrong data. What works, a bit, is do a send string option in CoolTerm but that is also limited to approx 200-300 characters or so. In other words, it's nearly impossible to upload a text/bas file onto RC2014 then over serial. Any suggestions or tips?

coolterm seems to be a really simple program.  Search for vt100 terminal for OSX that supports xmodem.

xmodem is a file transfer protocol that is fast and error free.  It will send any kind of file to the RC2014 if your OSX software supports xmodem.

PERFECT suggestion. File Mac-to-Host does not yet work for me but copy paste does :-)

FYI:  If you do not have xmodem on your RC2014, you can grab it from:  http://web1.foxhollow.ca/cpm/xmodem/xmodem.zip

The readme file explains how to transfer xmodem to the RC2014 without already having xmodem on the RC2014.

Hi Chris
I have mentioned it a few times already on this forum, but I think you should check out "Serial"
I have tested many serial/terminal apps for the mac, I found serial to be the most reliable of them all.
My experience with coolterm is, you get connection but it is not very reliable.
Serial is able to download and upload files with both download.com and xmodem.

Hi all, thanks for all the useful tips! Really appreciate it. I do not have the CFcard option module so no CP/M for me as of now... :-) Perhaps I was a bit too optimistic in send a large basic file as a string to the RC2014 basic program ??? :-) But cut and paste via MacWise works like a dream
