This looks like it would pair really nicely with the Orton.

I've ordered the PCB and parts to build one.  I'll let y'all know how well it works out.

But now, how to output to punched tape...???  You can buy the Altair BASIC tape from Tindie.  And there are services where you send them a file and they return a punched tape.

There are a couple DIY tape punchers on the webs.  They look complicated and one-offs, not kits.

Anyone have any clever ideas on how to create a simple tape puncher?

It doesn't even have to be fast.  Just automated.

I'm playing with the idea of some 3d printed something and even using my 3D printer to punch holes and advance a tape.  Very slow, crude and brute force.

But hey, "If it's dumb, but it works, it's not dumb!"

I have looked at this build a few times https://unimplementedtrap.com/paper-tape-punch There's a GitHub page with the 3D printed stuff on it - however, it still looks like it's a long way from a finished product.  At the very least, it's food for thought.

Robb,
I have a several tape readers to choose from when thinking about connecting one to my 3C. I also have a teletype BPRE100 that I have not used for about 35 years, but it's been kept in dry/warm conditions so I see no reason why it wouldn't still work. When I last used it I was only punching 5 hole tape so I don't know if the other channels will work.

I can punch 5 hole tape on the Elliott 803 at TNMOC, and I can also punch 8 hole tape on a device we have in the workshop.
