I found the FUZIX web site (https://www.fuzix.org/), and I have built
an RC2014 Zed. The RC2014 runs fine with an FTDI USB cable, I've had
it boot CP/M 2.2 and Zsystem from the RomWBW, and I believe the CF
card shipped with the RC2014.

It looks like I would use the "Z80 Root Filesystem (32MB)" if I wanted
to boot and run FUZIX, but there's no instructions on how to get that
Root Filesystem onto some physical medium.

I googled around, and I wasn't able to find any instructions or first
hand accounts of getting FUSIX root filesystem onto some media. How do
I go about doing this? FUSIX looks interesting.

What did you expect from Fuzix OS? (I don't know it!)

It looks to me as though you should copy the image directly to the appropriate medium. Using something like 'dd'. However, In your case I'd be tempted to use the "RC2014 with ROMWBW and Z80" image - but this image needs to have a simulator header removed - see instruction above it "Strip the first 1K off them when writing to real media." The "rootfs" images may not be bootable.

It's been awhile since I played around with fuzix.  Here are my note pertaining to my SC126 z180 system:

Fuzix - z180 Unix

  • Image Creation:
    • dd bs=1024 skip=1 if=sc126-0.3.ide of=sc126-0.3.trimmed
    • Fuzix sc126 image. From Fuzix site: fuzix.org
    • dd if=sc126-0.3.trimmed of=/dev/sdi, where /dev/sdi is the micro sd disk device
  • Boot up:
    • Use, romWBW, and use SD0 Boot, with slice 0
    • Change baudrate to 38400
    • At bootdev: prompt, type hda1 -or- hdb1
    • If CP Card Reader installed, then at the prompt type hdc1 or hdb1
    • Enter new date: <yyyy>-<mm>-<day>
    • Enter new time: <hh>:<mm>:
    • login: root (no passwd)
This may be useful to someone.  The image was created by using Linux dd utility.

Cheers,
Chris
