I have a Shimano Deore long caged M531rear derailleur on my 9-speed drive train on my Clem. I am interested in replacing the jockey wheels.

I did do some research and came up with RD-5700 pulley set (Y5XH98120).
Would these be suitable ?

Funny how we have to go Europe to get any decent info on Shimano parts ! According to this reputable German retailer, yes they are. https://www.bike-components.de/en/Shimano/9-10-speed-Derailleur-Pulleys-1-Pair-p1370/

I gotta ask though, how did you determine they needed replacing ?  I mean, I''ve never needed to replace any jockey wheels on any RD save a Campy back in the day, which were known to be pretty poor wearing. Your basic Shimano jockey wheels are very long wearing, quite simple in construction, and easily dismantled to clean and drop some oil in there. Even the XT sealed bearing type are easily serviced.

@Garth,

In answer to your question, how
I came to determine that my jockey wheels need replacement, the lower jockey wheel has a lot of play side to side, say about 1/8th of an inch.
I bought the rear derailleur used off of Fleabay sometime ago, about two years ago.

Hmm.

Perhaps the previous owner swapped the G-pulley to the lower axle? I believe the top pulley (G-pulley) does have a bit of play where the lower usually doesn't.

Swap them around and see.

Cheers, John

I recently found and bought a pair of replacement jockey wheels off of Fleabay with the stock number Y5XH98120 for my M531 rear derailleur. I will see show they work out.

Thanks for your help Garth and John.
