Hi Caroline, you are an inspiration! I haven't gotten rid of my car, but am able to commute to work most days on my Riv, so I have a start at it.

Well written, Caroline! While my Rivs rarely see any city, you must be correct that any Riv is just as at home on city streets as on mountain trails. Now, I do think it would be wonderful to see a photo of your Riv loaded with a Craig's List purchase or locked to a Brooklyn parking sign.

Touche! Congratulations Caroline, both for your letter and the New Yorker publishing it.

Thanks for expanding their concept of Rivendell "cult". I know Will was quoted in the article saying that the plastic go faster followers were more of a cult but it was nice to see a retort to what was an undertone of unpaved routes, tree lined hills and lumberjack plaid and Birkenstock wearing Riv riders.
