Hi All -

Tucker Schwinn, son of Richard, is a very talented photographer. He also worked at Waterford Precision Cycles in many capacities at various stages of his life. The closure of WPC was a big event in the Schwinn family, and Tucker has just published a book, Closure, that is a gigantic photo essay, his recollections of working there, and a reflection on the loss of a niche factory dedicated to the art and craft of steel bicycle frames.

I just received mine and I can't be objective about it, of course, but I think it is stunning. I found one Rivendell nugget among the photos, and there are probably more.

I worked for Richard & Marc for several years. Fun times (mostly).

I wrote and put together a little publication called The Ride Report.
The end of it all was rather sad, definitely bitter sweet.

Richard did me big favor by recommending me to Joe Earley, the creator of Tifosi Optics in Athens, GA. Through my work as major accounts manager I got to know bike shop owners and shop rats from all over the country.

Good times.

Thanks Ted and John,

The book is a fitting epilogue to one of the great brands in the bicycle industry. Happily the Waterford name is still out there on lots of down tubes. A local riding pal just picked one up adorned with chrome lugs. It's a beauty.

Best,
Rich in ATL

Me thinks I'm a sucker for chrome lugs.

And that Soma Stanyan to which i refer is still alive and well in 'the family' stable.

Ted,

Thanks for the heads up about this book. I ordered a copy last week and it just arrived. I love my Waterford RS-22. Doesn't have chromed lugs but does have Henry James polished stainless lugs and crown. I'm sure I'll pass this book along to the next owner when I'm too old and feeble to ride it. ;-)

John,

Is The Ride Report available anywhere?

Thanks you guys, an interesting project so far! Model 1900, 753 Reynolds, Henry James dropouts...

Has anyone ordered a technical report from Fleet Velo for their Waterford/ Gunnar frame? $50 per serial number, "you can purchase historic decals, touch-up paint, find paint codes, and even pull up the geometry and original build spec."
