At the very end of Grants latest Blagh (today is June 20, 2024) there's a prototype Riv center pull brake (interesting), a Riv front derailer (exciting), and a bike sporting a sticker indicating it is one of twelve in the universe, with two black rectangles blocking out something (provocative).  What is being blocked out by the two rectangles?  The model name of the bike?  The name of the secret unsuspecting person intended to receive that singular copy of those twelve bikes?  Vulgar profanity?

Why am I the first to ask these important questions in this forum?

Without having read the Blagh, I have no answers to the questions Bill asked. Could this be one of the special Blug Lug exclusive fancy bikes mentioned in a previous Blagh months ago?

I just want to say that the tube patch theme on the decal is subtle and very cool. And that new centerpulls for wide tires are exciting, if true.

JL, I think you're right. The numbers look to match with what Grant wrote in the last Blagh of '23. Hope we get to see more photos of these soon.

Special Bikes for Blue Lug

Some of you know that BLUE LUG is a Japanese bicycle company and retailer that, in some ways, is a better rivendell than we are. Unbounded admiration for Blue Lug, can't rave enough, and so on.

For the past three years there has been, let's say, a long and drawn-out expedition to make ten or twelve made-in-America by Mark Nobillette special Rivendell bicycles. Our choice of design, sized small-to-med, and med-to-large.

We had new lugs made for them. We made a new decal, and got a new batch of head badges. Joe Bell helped us pick the paint, and he's painting them unassisted with some special, no-longer-available paint--keeping it out of the landfill.

We'll have some of them here by late December MAYBE.  I bet it's late January. This whole process has been a days become weeks become months thing, always for good reasons, but extremely frustrating. We will de-fo-nate-ly keep these offa Instagram.
