i'm well aware that i'm preaching to the converted, but i just ordered my new wheelset from walnut creek and had, top to bottom, one of the most pleasurable customer experiences of my life.  the details don't even matter, it was nothing out of the ordinary or particularly profound, just pleasant folks doing a good job.  i told my wife about it last night but woke up this morning still feeling grateful and figured i'd let some of it out here.  looking forward to many more years rollin' 'round on some built by riches.

have a good day everybody.

hey Paul, noticed you're in Takoma Park. When you had your busted synergy wheel serviced, do you mind telling me which shop you used?

i went to takoma bicycle on carroll ave.  i'd happily take a recommendation for a reliable shop in the area.

I use Proteus sometimes. But I have a friend that co-owns a shop in Ellicott City that I use most of the time. It's a drive, but worth it in my opinion. I have a pair of synergys on my saluki and I'm worried about them blowing up at some point so am thinking of a new wheel set.

I've noticed a fair number of posts regarding rear-rim Synergy failures. My/our approach is this: if the wheel's been ridden for a "reasonable" time -- say, 6 years or more -- then I/we offer to replace it at half-price, with no labor charge. You cover the shipping to us (you could send just the hub if you want). If it's sooner than that, then no charge, but you still pay the shipping to us. The usual replacement is the Atlas, Dyad or A23. The off-center Synergy rim had a tendency to crack around the spoke-holes, so was discontinued and replaced with the Velocity/Rivendell-designed Atlas.

Paul, I agree!  I just bought my second bike from Rivendell:  an MIT Atlantis and a Rich-built wheel set to boot.  First rate customer service on the phone and my packages arrived impeccably packaged.  As an aside; the Atlantis with a 650b wheel delivers quite impressive handling.  I'm very happy.  Tim

Rich:

When I sent an OC rear back to Velocity, they re-built the wheel with a non OC Synergy rim and it works very well. I must say that I still have another bike in service (rode it hard tonight in fact) with a trouble free OC Synergy rear.
