Anyone have toe overlap issues?

According to BikeInsights the tire-to-pedal-spindle on my current bike is about 10cm.  I sometimes hit my toe on my (sks) fender at low speeds. It's not terrible but I wouldn't want any less room.  I noticed that the Sam has like 2 cm less toe overlap than my current bike. This is one reason I gravitated towards the Cheviot and Platypus where the front-center is longer (just a guess on the Platypus).
Does anyone else have toe overlap issues?  Is it just my size 13 feet that are the issue?

I have a current generation Atlantis and my toes don't even come close to my fender-ed front wheel...and my heels don't come anywhere close to my panniers on my rear rack. Both were an issue with my last bike, which was too small (but vertically and horizontally) for me.

Atlantis has a monster wheelbase...the front center on the 59cm is generous, but the chain stays are borderline ridiculous...and I love it. Just as a comparison, the spinde-to-wheel on Atlantis in my size v. Homer in my size is 6.2 cm more. I think I'd definitely have toe overlap on Homer.

I occasionally have toe overlap issues on my 53cm 2003/4 Atlantis currently running Super Yummy tires and MKS platform pedals. Size 9 mens shoe.

Did you mean to say 2cm more toe overlap than your current bike (which is?)

Yes, size 13 feet with a big boot to boot will aggravate the situation--but there is often less overlap to begin with on bigger frames. Front center, tire size, pedal type and foot position, fendered or not, foot size, all contribute of course. I can't speak to the Sam, but none of my Hillibikes come close to overlapping my size 11 dogs.

On the other end of the spectrum, I have a Huffy that has severe overlap--such that I occasionally rub a foot when climbing a steep grade. It does suffer from a kink in the down tube, which probably steeped up the head angle a touch.

I meant to add, toe overlap does not bother me. It might with a fixed gear in urban riding, but not so much elsewhere. I know lots of folks get unsettled by it, though.

I meant that the tire-to-spindle distance was 2cm less on a Sam of a similar size. When I reduce the tire size on the Sam (to 42) it's 1.5cm.   Maybe I really should just get a Sam :-)

I must have close to 3" of toe overlap with my Matthews dirt road bike and 80 mm fenders; it's a tradeoff I accept, but I would not choose this bike for technical singletrack.

Reaction to toe overlap is a very personal thing. Jan dislikes it, Grant doesn't mind it. I've commuted across town in busy traffic on fixed gears (no adjusting cranks for corners) with fenders and toe overlap for years without much difficulty; like not leaning hard in corners on a fixed gear, you learn to compensate for it.

However, on my new-to-me old Monocog, with 30 1/2" wheels, the absence of toe overlap is very nice to have.

My 2015 Sam is the only bike I have ever had toe overlap with. It’s always interesting when my downgoing toe hits the upgoing front tire on a low speed turn.  55 Sam, size 10 shoe, 622x42 tires.
I thought that, like pedal strike, it was just something you trained yourself not to do.

I really dislike toe overlap. I have had it on pretty much every road bike with fenders I've ever had, even a Toyo Atlantis with 26" wheels. It's tolerable for pure paved road riding, but any kind of slow speed underbiking, country biking, hilibiking, etc and it's a no-go for me.

I agree. I ride a 58 cm Sam, and I experience overlap (58cm frame; 175 mm cranks; 700x38 tires; berthoud stainless fenders; size 10 street shoes on VP Vice pedals). It's a fantastic bike, but overlap can be annoying in stop and go traffic and while riding offroad. I wish 58 cm Sams were available in 650b!
