Looks like SA finally caught up to Brooks and produced a rubber saddle. Has anyone had the chance to try it out? My leather SA saddle is the most comfortable saddle I've used so I am curious about the new rubber one. I might order one just to give it a shot. https://selleanatomica.com/products/r2

I’ve been using SA for years. They’re great. I prefer leather so I didn’t take them up on the plastic version.

I saw an rode it for a whole minute at the Philadelphia Bike Expo in November.  It seemed fine, but then again, only for a minute.  I'm curious too.  They come up in the sale section every week or so and I've seen them there in the $80-90 range.  If you do that, it's yours.  If you buy it new, they have a money back guarantee.

I have a NSX and I like it better than my B17, and I'd love to try the X2.

If you try it, please keep us posted.

I bought the rubber SA saddle in December for my commuter. I was tired of always carrying a cover for my leather SA on sloppy winter days. I lasted four days with the rubber saddle. Photos will show what it did to my orange MUSA rain pants on the first snowy/sleet day. SA said I was the first to report such an issue and recommended that I put a cover on it during rain and snow. I declined as that defeated the purpose of a rubber saddle. I returned the rubber SA. On inspecting a pair of khakis I discovered the saddle had stained them, too, on a dry day previously. If you ride in black shorts and pants, then I recommend the rubber SA as you won’t ruin the saddle when it rains or snows. If you ride in lighter color pants, please do a test ride in a pair you don’t mind staining.

All the best,
Erl
PS: I love my leather SA!

Wow, that will save me $90.  I am curious, though.  How was the ride?

The ride was so-so. I have an SA X1 which I love. The R2 was not as comfortable. It lacked the give and flex of the X1. In addition the rails on the X1 are longer than the rails on the R2 and X2, so I can get the X1 just enough farther back to be in the perfect position.

Great info. I’d been on the fence too. I have an x2 that I like a lot but some of the quality is a little... concerning...longevity wise. Super comfortable For the time being though. Was gonna try this, but not if it stains and isn’t as comfortable.

Thanks for the info, Erl. I think I'll purchase another leather saddle from SA instead.

I was on the pre-order list for the R2, but after they blew a couple of delivery deadlines I switched my order to an H2.  SA communicated really well during the process.  They essentially switched my order to an H2 without an upcharge and shipped it 2 day.   I've been very happy with my SA saddle. I'm 190lbs and the H2 leather seems to be the right level of suppleness. My experience was mainly with VO and Geyes saddles in the past.

If anyone wants to try the R2 rubber saddle, I have one I would let go of. It's a nicely made saddle but the shape didn't work for me.

That was my experience as well. I wanted to give the new one a run but delays were frustrating. It’s not uncommon. And SA was great about it.  But I switched order back to H2 leather and happier for it.
