I have back o bike bags in blue (newer strap attachments) and the darker grey (older attachment method) to trade for a set of brown back o bike bags (I think they made these in the brown canvas at one point.) Also have other stuff to trade, or cash.

I have twiced missed out on the head set tool Rivendell is selling. If you have one and maybe having second thoughts, I would love to buy it. I have a few builds coming up where I will need it. Despite being on the notification email, the instagram feed, and the newsletter, I have missed it twice. I think they've sold out both times within a couple of hours.

I know, these are out there, but I've seen it work before! Please reply off list. Thanks!

For the headset tool I'd simply contact Jim Stein on his website https://www.steintool.com/contact/ . While it's not shown that doesn't matter, everyone has things for sale "off the menu" so to speak.

Thanks Garth. I guess that's an option, but I don't want to do an "end-around" on Rivendell (though it seems they are not having an issue selling them!) I imagine Jim is busy building the next batch for Riv, and if everyone contacted him directly whenever Riv got sold out... we'll see. I'll give Rivendell a call and see if they have an ETA for the next batch.

Holy Cow. I missed out on the Head set tool again. Sold out. I even signed up for the email alert, never got one, just the mass newsletter announcing they were back in stock, but did not see it until after work and...gone.

Mark,

I managed to snag one on the second round of these -- it is a truly lovely tool that works extremely well. I had a home made headset press made with large washers, nuts, and all thread, which was functional but finicky. It is now at my local co-op -- I donated it. I've used the Stein on two headsets so far...    Wow!   It is worth the wait. Sooner or later supply will catch up with demand, or you'll just happen to be on the Riv site when they get restocked or juat after (which is what happened to me).

Thanks, Julian. It's just frustrating when you sign up for a restock notification and instead it gets announced publicly.  I really wish they would take 20 pre-orders or something like that, as with sweaters and sometimes bicycles. There has to be a better system

And only five of the longer for the taller...

You're seeing 5 of the longer head set tool still in stock? All my computers (so not a browser refresh issue) show both sizes out of stock since not long after the newsletter hit.

Nope, I saw that they only had five to begin with. Still a much better ratio than the sad 58cm to 68cm frame availability.

Mark, I'm not sure if you already ordered one or not, but Riv has two headset tools in stock right now... I ordered one yesterday, excited to get it and use it!

I did get one, thank you! Let the headset cup pressing begin! (It's so much less unwieldy than the Park.) Also make a DIY remover out of 3/4" electrical conduit and a fork crown putter on-er out of 1 1/4" pvc.

Oh boy, I purchased the last one in stock for the long head tubes !   I had not really planned on buying one but after struggling with DIY hacks I rather had enough of that.

Well, you run into that DIY hack problem again (due to shortage of the Stein tool) here's one that really works.  Visit the local hardware store and buy the following: (1) 12" threaded stock, 5/8"x 12 TPI, (6) flat washers, (2) 15/16" nuts, 5/8"x12 TPI, (2) plastic shoulder washers, 3/4" (these may be harder to find locally, but may be easily ordered on-line).  The buy two Park replacement stepped bushings for their HHP-2 tool - I've seen these on-line for around $37 a pair.  Carefully and neatly wrap enough plastic tape around the plastic shoulder washers to increase their diameter to 7/8", the inner diameter of the Park stepped bushings.  Drop the plastic bushings into the stepped bushings, move this assembly onto the threaded stock followed by three flat washers at each end, and then the two nuts.  The 12" threaded stock should be plenty long enough to fit a wide range of head tube lengths.  All you need is a pair of wrenches to make the thing work.
