I got tired of my front wheel swinging wildly and consequently having my downtube struck by a Wald basket attached to a Mark's rack. I'm using a two-legged kickstand and with a rear rack and panniers, the front of the bike is almost always levitated, so the downtube strike was getting obnoxious.

The first attempt was some Newbaum tape. Unfortunately, that wasn't thick enough to prevent the abuse. Second, I went with a slice of pool noodle and duct tape. It did the trick, but looked hideous. So today I went for a "once-and-for-all" solution.

I used some double-sided tape, old Fizik handlebar gel pads, wool felt from the local arts and crafts store, and some twine. I'm feeling confident now, and here's the result. Not the prettiest, but it improves on the pool noodle fix with a bit of Rivish style, which I expect it to last. Surgeon's not to finish it off.

I don’t use baskets, but I did protect my top tubes from bar end shifters with 2 wraps of padded handlebar tape taped down at each end with color-coordinated electrician’s tape.

FWIW, there are or were sold front wheel “stabilizers,” spring-loaded attachments between back of fork crown and bottom of down tube; I think I still have one somewhere that I bought from Velo Orange years ago but abandoned in favor of said bar tape.
