Bike Snob’s Roaduno setup. There was a similar gap between the outer cage of my LX fd and the 38 t outer when I converted my Fargo from 46/36/24 to 38/24 — I changed nothing except the outer throw limit. As for Bike Snob, it worked fine despite the gap.

Hey Dan - what chainring guard is that? Similar to the All City I have but I would prefer silver.

Thanks,

Marty

It’s the chain guard that came with the SpaCycles crank set. I bet they would sell it separately if you asked! I also think maybe Blue Lug might sell some.

Hey Patrick.  Interesting one here as I have had to grapple with this (in process) and glad to hear it works great, but I still hate it aesthetically and at this point will shelf a bike and sort before I run a big gap.  lol.

Very familiar with this as the FD pictured is one of my favorites for compact setups and run a lot of MD XC Pros as well.  Those old XT FDs are just so good and I will often limit myself to just a 12 tooth gap between rings on a compact or sub-compact double to ensure I can use that model.

Only setup I have where it leaves a gap like this is one of my Rosco Bubbe bikes that got stuck in my build queue with a WI 28/42 setup.  Since some of the IRD and cx70 FDs that are supposed to work well for these setups seem hard to find these days, I bit the bullet and decided to give that odd little skeleton FD a try.  Hoping for solid shifting and a better cage match but will see how it goes when I get back to finishing this spring.

Again, good to hear these gap setups work well, but I am always interested in seeing what models people dig up to mitigate said gap.
