Hey Patrick! (and anyone else interested in multimodal traveling)

From our discussion in the Rinko thread (https://groups.google.com/forum/m/#!searchin/rbw-owners-bunch/Rinko/rbw-owners-bunch/EkOTdya_1MI), I thought of making a short video to demonstrate when I took the bus to Portland last weekend. This is a full bike rolled onto the belly of the bus, not rinkoed.

Enjoy! https://instagram.com/p/BycKoR8FKFz/

Thanks Ana. Did you have to call ahead or make a reservation? Any extra fees?

Hi Kellie,

No extra fees for the BoltBus, and no reservation needed. It is first come first served, which can be problematic on trips when there’s lots of luggage, and people cut in front to put their bag first, so you have to move them out of the way to be able to fit your bike.

One thing I found on my return trip was that there’s an extra compartment. Another bicycle arrived later, the front compartments were not quite full, but would’ve required a lot of moving around. The driver popped that third door open. I’m doing that next time, because I came to find a duffle bag on top of my front wheel 😒

Also I remember the time we were three bikes, and the driver wanted to place one on top of the other, and I said “No, we’re not!”. There was enough room; just people don’t want to slide their stuff all the way to the opposite side. It hasn’t happened that there has not been room. I wonder if anyone else has had that experience and what happens then. Maybe have your bike rinkoed as a backup plan...
