My recently picked up Saluki is fantastic. I have been digging into finding out some details about it and the biggest mystery has been the front hub.  The shifters, FD, RD and rear hub are all Suntour XC Pro which was never really advertised as Rivendell parts they used but definitely fit into the mold of what they WOULD use.  Based on that I am pretty sure that the wheels were made at Rivendell.  The rims are pretty clearly Velocity Synergy. The only thing I couldn't figure out was the front hub which is unmarked. After some research I am pretty sure that it's a Suzue hub that Rivendell used for the Quickbeam wheels. Since the Quickbeam was announced around the same time it makes sense that Rivendell would have a bunch of these hubs around.  Here is a photo of the currently dull front hub.  Can anyone with a Quickbeam with stock wheels confirm if this is what that hub looked like?

Could be a Sansin. Sansin made hubs for Suntour at some point in time.

I'm quite familiar with Sansin/Suntour/Specialized cartridge bearing hubs and by that photo it doesn't appear to be one of those. What gives me pause is the silver nut right next to the cartridge bearing, the hubs I have use a black bearing mount that takes a thin cone wrench. The construction of the axle parts is much the same as cup/cone bearings, with the nut is at the end of the axle.

The silver nut position reminds me of how Quando hubs are made.

Yep, that looks like the Suzue as seen on this pic of Sheldon Brown's Quickbeam. The high flange matched nicely with the rear singlespeed hub.

Rich has helped pretty much confirm that its a Suzue hub. Thanks for the help! He also said the rear hub is great but with super specific and rare cassettes. Great luck for me!

The XC Pro is a cassette hub?? Yep, that baby is rare, it came right at the end of Maeda Suntour's run. Let's see your bike!

Congratulations on the acquisition. Great looking Saluki:-) Didn't know Riv produced the Saluki in metallic beige(?). Have they used the color on any other models?
The proportions are just right with the 650b wheels. Enjoy!

Best,
Rich in ATL

The color is interesting. I also have never seen one in that color but I found archived web content from Riv that said the two stock colors when launched were green and pewter. The pewter is described as a "fawny silver". Based on that description I would say this is pewter and it was a stock color but most that I have seen were green.

Yes, I had a pewter Saluki and it's a fascinating color that changes quite a bit depending on the light. It's kinda like the current grilver, maybe a smidge creamier. The creamy headtube adds to that effect, too.
