he was working at Berkeley Velosport about 25 years ago and sold me my Univega.

Maynard used to come by City Cycle in San Francisco in 1990 and 1991 when I worked there. He liked to hang out at bike shops and chat. Lent me his Time road pedals and cleats to try out.

I knew him first as the motorcycle guy, he wrote (maybe still does) for a free SF rag called City Bike. Then I saw him in one of the first Readers, plus whatever that free cycling rag was called. California Bicyclist?
