Most of my riding is North/South along the river valley which is pretty much flat, but you get at least some of the experience riding against our typical strong Southwesterlies.

10.something miles spinning merrily North along Corrales lateral making good time despite the sand, and 10.something miles grinding back South, in the sand.

Didn’t get lower than a 60” gear. Hah!

Too busy spinning outbound to stop and take pictures, and too busy grunting with nose to bar homebound to take pictures.

18 to 22, gusts 22 to 29.

Great fun! And very pretty on a late Spring morning.

But bb is creaking and must fix, but will wait until the SJS 42 t TA chainrings arrive before disassemble the drivetrain (44/28 to be swapped for 42/24, and 14-28 to be swapped for 13-28.)

Aside: Has anyone successfully set up RH Snoqualmie Pass ELs or Hatcher Pass ELs tubeless? I’m thinking of a second, more road-biased wheelset for this Matthews, mmore pavement-friendly than the 54 mm Thunderburt extralights, for rides involving a lot of pavement but with tires comfortable on firm dirt. I’m leaning toward the Snoqualmies for the lighter weight and — I don’t need more than the ~44-46 mm that these ought to measure tubeless on Blunt SS’s. But the Oracle Ridge Standards I had were very difficult to use tubeless — leaking on bead, prone to slow leaks; I replaced them with the Thunderburts.

But wouldst gabble like a thing most brutish,

I endowed thy purposes with words that made them known.

The extralight model Thunderburts weigh ~540 digital grams, the Snoqualmie extralights weigh 340 published grams, and the Hatchers weigh a published 435 grams. To take 200 grams off each wheel would be nice, in addition to the absence of even small knobs and the agility of a 1 cm narrower tire.

I’ve been running Barlow Pass EL tubeless on Quills on my Roadini for 3000+ km with no issue. Orange Seal Endurance sealant, which my mechanic said is a must with these tyres.
I don’t see why you would have issues with a wider tyre!

Hey, Patrick.

I ride those same ABQ north valley trails both east and west side of the Rio Grande past Corrales and back on my Appaloosa. About the Thunderburts, I have been running 29" Gravel King SKs with Tannus inserts for 2,058.9 mi and I have had zero flats (probably because i carry a pump and patch kit and not because of the Tannus!). I give the credit to the Tannus as I am running them on 5 bikes with no flats. I don't know the weight, but you can find them and compare. I ditched tubeless several years ago because of the mess and the insane goathead frequency around here. I don't even think about goatheads now.

Regarding the wind in ABQ, I am practicing fixie tricks at UNM while the wind is blowing.

Apologies if I asided your aside!

Tyler
