From what I am able to find out by surfing around on the Web, most all organized rides - call 'em Centuries, Brevets, whatever you like - have been or are being postponed until next year.  This includes some regional favorites later in the Fall such as the Hilly Hundred in Southern Indiana.  Any of you out there in various states around the country finding any that are NOT cancelled?

My RBA (SFRandonneurs) sent us an email asking what our opinions are for rides moving forward, suggesting there may be arrangements.  I responded indicating I'd be game to do Adventure Series 200s, as they usually have very few starters (<30) and that I enjoy doing those mixed terrain events solo.  Since I finish in the middle of the pack I figure I can still rescue a fast rider if needed, and can be rescued by a slow rider if I need it.  I hate pacelines, so I would not mind a 'social distance' brevet.

There's always the virtual thing. Here is one example, doing the Comino de Santiago pilgrimage: https://www.theconqueror.events/camino/

The full list that company offers is here: https://www.theconqueror.events/

With abandon,
Patrick

Yeah, Deak - I took a look at the Hotter n Hell website for this year's HH100 ride in Wichita Falls, TX, to see what they were going to do and, in fact, they're cancelling their regular century in favor of a "virtual ride" that anyone in any community can do.  It seems a little odd to me, but then everything seems a little odd this year.

The local bike club posted to Facebook that they were starting their weekly club rides due to the fact the state is opening up. I will not be attending mostly because I ride primarily solo nowadays but also I’m certainly not doing group rides during a global pandemic. A lot of this riding is pace line roadie stuff, but some is nice and leisurely cruising too.

The charity rides local to me have been canceled for the most part. Some local races are doing virtual challenges instead...stuff you can do solo.

I just bought a Frank Jones Single speed off a list member and my plan is to ride that the rest of the year. I’ve never found single speeds to be good group riding bikes...so solo it is.

Spring century rides near me (central Virginia) either cancelled or postponed to late summer. Fall centuries either happening as scheduled or postponing registration to wait and see.

High-school MTB league has polled families and coaches to gauge interest. Our HS team will plan to ride and train, but not sure yet about competitions.

I’ve heard rumors from the local randonneuring club (New Jersey) that there may be a populaire or two this summer, but everything else in my area is canceled.

DC Randonneurs is restarting its schedule, beginning with the July 4 weekend.  Your local club may do the same, because recent changes by RUSA make electronic proof of passage possible.  People argued for it for years, but it took a Pandemic to shake loose entrenched rules.

Organized rides - probably not.  USA Cycling and LAB issued some Best Practices documents outlining steps to be taken to put on an event.  They're beyond the scope of a cycling club putting on a club century, in my opinion.  Although it's hard to see how a club could be successfully sued by a participant who might have caught Covid-19 (after all, how could you tell they got it at your event?) if you were in flagrant disregard of Best Practices put out by the professional organizations in the field, you sure would look negligent and might end up having to prove you weren't responsible, and good luck with that.  Add to that, you know going in your attendees aren't going to respect social distancing while they're pacelining, and the documents call for everyone to wear masks all the time they're riding, and for sure there are going to be people who won't or can't.  (I wanted to and tried, but I just can't make it work.)

RUSA is re-starting with 200K rides in July. I ran a 100/200/300K ride this past Saturday without incident, using staggered times. Our Montgomery annual century is still on in October. It has 30, 62, 100 and 124 mi options.
