Hi folks --

OK, my Jack Brown's are on their last legs. Is anyone running 38s -- if so, any reflections? Any pics?

Thanks,

I am running 38 x 700c Gravelking Slick. It clears the brakes and fork pretty well. Although clearing through the brake calipers requires getting the air out - this is only a concern when you're getting your wheels in or out.

Previously I tried 32 mm Continental Slicks and 35 mm Gravelking SS. 38mm feel noticeably more comfortable (I am guessing because I run 38mm at 75psi while used to run 32s at over 90 psi). I have heard others talk about 38mm having poor handling on Roadini but I have not been able to tell the difference or my riding style (10-12 mph on paved roads unless descending) has not put me in a situation where I can notice the difference.

Not sure if you're looking to run fenders, but there doesn't seem to be enough clearance for them with 38 mm tires.

I used 38 GravelKings for a while. Definitely need to install with the air out but I have decent clearance. I really liked them, ran the psi very low, tubeless, and the bike would go anywhere.IMG_20200929_145005.jpg

I believe the clearance depends on your model year. My Roadini is from the 2020 batch and I can easily fit 38 Shikoros without deflating. I had Jack Browns on there for a short time but will not be going back to them on this bike.

Rivendell did state that the 2020 had more clearance. Mine is the 1st generation but will still fit 38mm tires.
I meant that I need to instal the tire deflated to get it past the brake shoes even with the caliper open.
Also, some orange frames from the 1st batch apparently had the brake bridge welded too high which allowed bigger tires but almost made it so you would have to use a long reach caliper instead of a standard.

Not on a Roadini, but I can squeeze 38 gravel king slicks in my canti-Rom and those tires are amazing.  Never ridden anything so fast and smooth.  I go about 50-55 psi on mine, and weigh in the mid-220s, and they feel perfect.

If you can fit 38s go for it.
